It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

 HoverCam

HoverCam is an Education Technology startup located in San Diego, CA. The company focuses in creating document cameras and all-in-one digital podiums for the classroom environment. Furthermore, the company has worked to be a leader in EdTech by developing an application for teachers so they could plan, create, and present their lessons to students, as well as giving them the ability to control stations and group rotations digitally. While working at HoverCam, I took on many roles: graphic designing, social media management, content creating, and UI design.

Social Media Management

The teacher community on Instagram is very niche; as a result, HoverCam’s Instagram page had to be revamped in order to reach out to this community. The strategy to grab the attention of teachers is to create fun, creative, and cohesive designs and using relevant hashtags. I made use of Instagram’s carousel option to post multiple sources of media in one post. By recording directly on the document camera and posting the video, we were able to market different ways teachers can use the device.

ClassFusion User Interface Redesign

ClassFusion is an online application created by HoverCam. Its purpose is to allow teachers to plan out their assignments and assessments, as well as monitor students and directly chat with them all in one application.

The original design for the home page included a large calendar and an endless updates feed. This interface could be difficult for some teachers to use because the calendar could end up being overcrowded with events and the endless scrolling for the updates feed could be frustrating.

The new design presents a cleaner look with the menubar now moved to the left-hand side. The calendar is now smaller and a daily timetable is listed directly under it so teachers can view everything they have schedule on that particular day. Furthermore, the notifications have been cleaned up and only lists the most recent activity. This design also allows teachers to customize their home pages because the blocky sections are intended to be widgets. This means that they can remove or add a calendar, to-do list, etc. if needed.

  Cyth Systems Branding

Cyth Systems is a systems integration company based in San Diego, CA. I worked as a Graphic Design Intern and assisted in the company rebranding. I created a branding manual and various collateral, and I developed new logos and icons for products.

Rebranding Part 1

When I first started working, I worked closely with the Marketing Director to create a branding manual. The original design direction for the company was a more professional and engineering-inspired look. View the Branding Manual here.

Rebranding Part 2

After the departure of the Marketing Director, the remaining marketing team worked to redesign the brand once more to create a more vivid and eye-catching design. The new look incorporates elements from products that are produced in the company, such as circuit boards.

 Alpha Phi Omega Collateral

Alpha Phi Omega — Rho Pi Chapter — is a community service fraternity at UC San Diego. From Spring 2017 to Spring 2018, I served as the publicity chair for the chapter. I designed flyers, created Snapchat geotags, and utilized social media to promote the organization during recruitment.

Senior Project: Birds of Disney[land]

Born out of an idea that came during a trip to the actual theme park itself, Birds of Disney[land] is an interactive piece that pokes fun at The Walt Disney Company’s use of capitalism. As the name suggests, the project focuses a bird and its journey around the amusement park. Users are allowed to join this little bird’s adventure by traveling freely around the map. While following the bird around on his trip, users will be able to see how the bird’s experience contrasts and mocks that of the humans.

This was my senior design project at UC San Diego. This art piece was part of the ICAM Senior Exhibition and was installed at the Kamil Gallery from June 11, 2019 to June 13, 2019.

Animations

The animations for this project was created in Adobe AfterEffects.

Location Designs

All of the locations for the videos were designed and created in Adobe Illustrator. I used actual pictures of Disneyland as a guide to create the majority of these settings.
